Charles H. Godwin
Charles Howell Godwin, 78, died Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Memorial Health University Medical Center. He was a native of Savannah and was raised at Bethesda Home for Boys. Mr. Godwin was a member of New Life Fellowship Church for many years and was a member of Gideons International. He served in the United States Army, serving in Japan at the end of WWII and also served in the National Guard for thirty-six years, retiring as a major. He was also a member of the Thirteenth Colony Barbershop Quartet.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Godwin, and his father Claude Godwin who was the founder of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Savannah.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Theresa Godwin, of Savannah, his son and daughter-in-law, David and Elaine Godwin, of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, his brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Ralph and Lois Godwin, of Interlochen, Florida, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 19, 2006 at New Life Fellowship Church, 12915 White Bluff Road with remembrances to the Charles Godwin Memorial Fund, c/o the church.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
